Washburn Lofts

Washburn Lofts

700 S 2nd St, Minneapolis, MN 55401

This National Historic Landmark building was originally the A Mill Utility Building-the Washburn Crosby Mill complex’s central packaging plant, and is the birthplace of General Mills. The 2001 renovation created twenty-two units within the thirteen-level building (including a premier 7,845-square-foot residence) and the design reflects the interplay of exposed concrete/masonry and modern edge. A public walkway and stairway between this and the neighboring Stone Arch Lofts connects 2nd Street to West River Parkway, Mill Ruins Park, and the Stone Arch Bridge.

Year Built: 1914 original built & 2001 renovation

Units: 22

Stories: 10

Shared Amenities: Community Room, Business Center, Exercise Room, Outdoor Patio, Underground Parking

Our Take: We love the preserved history of this condo building, which is evident throughout with the exposed brick & original concrete ceilings. Fun fact - this building is the birthplace of Better Crocker, serving as their first ever test kitchen.
