West Seventh

St. Paul, MN

Family-owned heritage restaurants abound in West Seventh, named for its busy thoroughfare lined with Irish pubs, a café staffed by recovering alcoholics, art galleries, coffee houses and vintage shops. The Upper Levee area, formerly known as “Little Italy,” is still home to Mancini’s Char House and Lounge—a vintage hotspot for hipsters and retirees alike. West Seventh also boasts Cosetta Alimentari, an Italian grocery and restaurant with rooftop dining. West Seventh stretches from downtown St. Paul—a bustling area with the Xcel Center and Science Museum of Minnesota at its north and eastern boundaries—to historic Fort Snelling along the Mississippi River with its abundant walkways, parks and bike trails. The Irvine Park section, a designated historic district, contains a large collection of pre-Civil War homes, while modern riverfront condominiums and apartments sit along the Mississippi. In addition to Irvine Park, West Seventh includes the smaller neighborhoods of Seven Corners, Uppertown, Upper Landing, Brewery, Kipps Glen, Jefferson School, St. Stan’s, Monroe and Adam’s School—names that reveal the area’s strong brewery, education and river traditions. Rowhouses, double houses, and a large concentration of brick and woodframe homes are found in the neighborhood, along with Prairie, Queen Anne, Eastlake, Italianate and Colonial Revival styles. West Seventh is truly a prismatic and inclusive neighborhood with strong traditions and an entrepreneurial spirit.
